Bristol Rovers sign Kian Hill to first professional contract

Bristol Rovers have handed a first professional contract to 19-year-old forward Kian Hill after a breakthrough season in the Academy and a productive loan spell at Bristol Manor Farm.

Hill, who was named Academy Player of the Season last term, made his senior debut in the Vertu Trophy against Cheltenham and later scored six goals and set up one during his time at Bristol Manor Farm. His progress convinced the club to reward him with a professional deal.

What does the new deal mean for Hill?

“It feels amazing to sign my first professional contract,” Hill told BRTV. “It’s everything you work for and go into training every day for. I’m grateful that I’ve been given the chance to play professionally.”

Hill grew up watching the first team at The Memorial Stadium and now finds himself part of the squad. “I remember being in the stands, watching the first team at The Mem as a young boy. So being part of this squad now and being a professional footballer here means a lot,” he added.

How did Hill impress the staff?

The Academy staff highlighted Hill’s willingness to learn and improve. “The Academy staff have been brilliant. I am really grateful for them; they’ve shown me where I need to improve,” he said. Regular meetings and feedback sessions shaped his development, with Hill absorbing advice from senior players who have “lived it and breathed it for their whole lives.”

Bristol Rovers kick off the new League Two campaign with a 14th-place finish from last season’s 46-game campaign. Their unbeaten run of five matches to close the campaign - recent form DWWWW - suggests momentum heading into the new season.

Hill’s contract keeps him at the club as they aim to build on last year’s 56 goals scored and 65 conceded record. With the new season yet to start, the club will look to add depth and quality to a squad that finished 25 points behind Bromley in the title race.
