Bristol Rovers' formidable 11-game home winning streak in League Two came to a crashing halt with a 3-1 defeat to Barnet at the Memorial Ground. Ellis Harrison gave the Gas a perfect start with a goal after just four minutes, but a late collapse saw the visitors score three times in the final quarter of an hour, compounded by Tommy Leigh's second red card in as many games.

Ellis Harrison scored his 11th goal of the season in all competitions, capitalising on a low cross from Shaq Forde that was only partially cleared. The early strike seemed to set Rovers on course to extend a run that had been a cornerstone of their season, leaving them ninth in the table with 15 points from 10 games. Barnet, managed by Dean Brennan, grew into the contest and made three attacking substitutions just before the hour mark which changed the game's momentum.

Barnet's late surge

The match turned decisively in the 79th minute when Adam Senior headed in an equaliser for Barnet. Just two minutes later, Zac Williams fired the Bees ahead. The situation deteriorated further for Rovers when Tommy Leigh was shown a straight red card in the 83rd minute for a late challenge on Charlie Lakin. Down to ten men, Rovers conceded a third in stoppage time, with Kabongo Tshimanga sealing the win for Barnet, who extended their own unbeaten run.

Steve Evans, the Bristol Rovers manager, pointed to a defensive error as the turning point. Evans said, "It was a 'huge mistake' by the Irish defender." The defeat is Rovers' third consecutive loss in League Two, a slide that has seen them concede 10 goals in those three matches.

Individual performances were mixed on a disappointing afternoon. Clinton Mola made several vital interceptions and was among the higher-rated players, while Keenan Gough operated as the defensive anchor in a 4-4-2 diamond. The defensive unit, however, struggled as the game wore on. The match was watched by a crowd of 8,953, including 522 travelling Barnet supporters.

Bristol Rovers must now regroup quickly ahead of a trip to face Shrewsbury Town on 17 October. Shrewsbury currently sit 18th, offering Rovers a chance to arrest their losing streak on the road. The full squad list will be key as Evans looks for a response from his players.
