Arvin Appiah has signed for Bristol Rovers and will play under manager Steve Evans again, having previously worked with him at Rotherham United. The 25-year-old winger arrives as a free agent after leaving Spanish side Almería in the summer, aiming to reignite his career in English football. He has signed a contract until the end of the season.

Appiah said he is grateful for the opportunity and is focused on regaining his confidence under Evans. "I can't wait to meet all of the fans at The Mem and to get this team to where it belongs," Appiah said. He described his injury last season as a significant one but confirmed he has recovered well and is ready to contribute. He is in contention for the matchday squad this weekend.

Appiah's style and squad connections

He outlined himself as a direct, ball-carrying player who likes to take on defenders and excite supporters. Appiah also noted he has settled in quickly with the squad, helped by a pre-existing connection with defender Riley Harbottle, a fellow Nottingham Forest academy graduate. He was also with Clinton Mola in England youth setups. Appiah said he has been impressed by the quality in the group and is eager to add his pace and directness to the team's stats.

His career includes 62 appearances for Almería after a move from Forest in 2019, with subsequent loan spells at clubs including Tenerife, Málaga, and Amiens. Appiah made eight first-team appearances for Nottingham Forest before his move abroad. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Rotherham, where he made 12 appearances under Evans.

Context for his arrival

Appiah joins a Bristol Rovers side sitting 5th in the League Two standings with 15 points from nine games, but one that has lost four of its last five matches. The team's recent form reads one win and four defeats, including a 4-1 loss to Wycombe last time out. They are one point behind leaders Salford City. Manager Steve Evans said the club had been tracking Appiah for some time and believes he can provide a different attacking dimension.

His potential debut could come this Saturday when Rovers host Barnet in their next fixtures, with the visitors currently 2nd in the table. Appiah said having history with the manager made Bristol Rovers the right place for him to show his ability as the club aims for promotion. Evans confirmed the club continues to monitor its injuries list but expects Appiah to be available for selection.
