Bristol Rovers chairman Hussain AlSaeed has confirmed the Woodlands Golf and Country Club site is on a shortlist of potential locations for a new stadium. The news comes as the club has definitively ruled out redeveloping the Memorial Stadium, describing that option as impossible.
AlSaeed stated the club is working through a prioritised list of sites. "Well, I mean, I think it's among the shortlist that we're looking at," the chairman said. "But nothing for sure, which one we're going for." He explained the process involves experts assessing each location for accessibility, traffic and overall suitability. AlSaeed said. "So what we've done is that we put priority, like option one, option two, and so on, and we start talking to the first one and see if there is something that can be done. If not, then we go to option two and option three, and like that. And that process takes time."
Landowners deny any approach
However, the landowners of the Woodlands site have issued a firm denial of any contact with the club.
Memorial Stadium redevelopment impossible
AlSaeed confirmed that extensive studies have ended any hope of redeveloping the club's current home, The Mem. "Extremely difficult. All the results came back with a red flag, so it was impossible," he said. "Since last year, now we concentrated on going outside the Memorial." The chairman expressed a desire to stay in the area but acknowledged the current ground cannot meet the club's long-term needs. "I want to stay here," AlSaeed said, but described achieving everything required at the Memorial Stadium as "impossible."
Focus on current campaign
The stadium search continues as the team handles the League Two season. Bristol Rovers currently sit ninth in the table with 15 points from 10 games, though they have lost their last three matches. Their next fixture is away to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday. AlSaeed also took the opportunity to reaffirm his support for manager Steve Evans, dismissing recent speculation linking him with other clubs. "I'm not going anywhere," Evans told local media recently, a sentiment echoed by the chairman. "He loves the place here. He loves the fans, and I think he will be staying with us," AlSaeed said. Evans, appointed in December 2025, has overseen a club-record run of 11 consecutive home league wins. Fans can track the team's progress and upcoming schedule on the club's fixtures and standings pages.
