Bristol Rovers lost 2-1 to Salford City in a League Two match at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night. The defeat extends the club's winless run to five games and leaves them ninth in the table with 15 points from 11 matches, having recorded five wins and six losses so far this season.

Salford City took control with two early goals. Sarpong-Wiredu opened the scoring in the sixth minute, finishing from a Kallum Cesay assist. Daniel Udoh doubled the lead twenty minutes later, set up by Luke Molyneux.

Bristol Rovers had a chance to get back into the game just before the hour mark when they were awarded a penalty. Top scorer Ellis Harrison, who has 11 goals this season, stepped up but saw his 54th-minute spot-kick saved. Jack Sparkes did pull a goal back for Rovers three minutes later, firing home to make it 2-1.

Both managers made a flurry of substitutions in the second half as the game intensified. Matt Butcher, Macaulay Langstaff, Will Aimson and Jorge Grant all came on for Salford City between the 67th and 83rd minutes. Bristol Rovers introduced Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny, Arvin Appiah, Joe Quigley and Bobby Kamwa in response.

The match was a physical affair, with seven players shown yellow cards. Elliot Bonds, Ryan Graydon, Luke Garbutt and Nathan Asiimwe were booked for the visitors. Kofi Balmer, Ciaran Kelly, Shaqai Forde and Keenan Gough received cautions for Bristol Rovers.

Statistically, the game was closely contested. Possession was nearly even, with Salford City edging it 51% to 49%. The visitors also had more shots, 14 to 12, and more saves, five to three. The result means Bristol Rovers are now seven points behind league leaders Salford City. Their recent form shows five consecutive losses, including this 1-2 defeat, a 1-0 loss to Shrewsbury, a 1-3 home defeat to Barnet, a 4-1 loss at Wycombe, and a 3-1 defeat at Crewe. The team has scored 15 goals and conceded 18 this season.

Bristol Rovers must now regroup quickly. Their next fixture is at home against Swindon Town on Saturday 24 October. The team will be looking to end their poor run and climb from ninth place in the standings.
