Barnet forward Jack Maskell has been handed a three-match ban for violent conduct against Bristol Rovers defender Kofi Balmer. The Football Association confirmed the suspension after Maskell admitted the charge from an incident in the 86th minute of Saturday's match at the Memorial Stadium.

The offence, which was not seen by the match officials at the time, was reviewed by an FA panel using video footage. Replays showed Maskell striking out at Balmer in the aftermath of Barnet's second goal, which was scored by substitute Charlie Larkin. The FA suspended Maskell for three matches, the standard penalty for violent conduct, which he accepted. He will now miss Barnet's upcoming home fixtures against Swindon Town and Oldham Athletic, as well as a trip to Salford City.

Match context and disciplinary issues

The incident occurred during a 3-1 comeback win for Barnet at the Mem, a result that ended Bristol Rovers' 11-game winning run in all competitions. Ellis Harrison had given the Gas a fourth-minute lead, but the visitors scored three times late on through Larkin and a double from Sam Beard. The defeat is part of a difficult recent spell for Rovers, who have lost their last three matches and sit ninth in the League Two standings with 15 points from 10 games, having recorded five wins and five losses. The team has scored 15 goals this season but conceded 17, leaving them with a negative goal difference.

Bristol Rovers also finished the game with ten men after midfielder Tommy Leigh was shown a straight red card in the 85th minute for a high challenge on goalscorer Charlie Larkin. The club's disciplinary concerns come during a run of one win in their last five outings, a sequence that includes heavy 4-0 and 3-0 losses to Wycombe and Crewe respectively.

Ellis Harrison, who opened the scoring against Barnet, remains a bright spot with 11 goals in 38 appearances this season, making him the club's top scorer. The team's next challenge is an away trip to face 18th-placed Shrewsbury on Saturday, 17 October, as they look to address their poor form. They currently sit four points behind the league leaders, Salford City. Barnet, meanwhile, will be without the suspended Maskell as they prepare for their next fixtures.
